What is an AI agent, concretely?

Beyond the buzzword: what sets an AI agent apart from a simple chatbot, and why that difference changes everything for your business.

A chatbot answers questions. An AI agent carries out missions.

The difference comes down to three capabilities:

1. Planning

An agent breaks a goal ("follow up with clients whose invoices are overdue") into concrete steps: query the invoicing software, identify late payments, draft personalized reminders, send them, log the outcome.

2. Tool use

Where a chatbot only converses, an agent acts: it reads from and writes to your business tools — CRM, email, spreadsheets, ERP — through secure connectors.

3. The control loop

An agent checks the result of its actions and corrects course. It is this "act → observe → adjust" loop that lets you entrust it with entire processes, with human validation checkpoints wherever the stakes call for them.

What it changes for you

The gains do not come from "AI that answers emails," but from complete processes running on their own: lead qualification, order processing, regulatory watch, reporting. The challenge is no longer technological — it is organizational: choosing the right processes, framing autonomy levels, measuring.

That is exactly the support work we do with our clients.
